Question: Can the bunk beds be customized?
Answer: Some custom changes can be made.
Send me an email with your ideas and I
will let you know if we can do it and what the charge will be.
Email address: bunkbedplans@aol.comQuestion: Can you stain
the bed for me with a color of my choice?
Answer: Yes, we can stain and finish the bed for an additional charge. The
prices are listed with each bed.
Question: How long does
it take to receive my bed?
Answer: It normally takes about 6-8 weeks from the time of order to the
time of shipment. If time is a concern, just contact us by email prior
to placing your order and we can give you an idea of the waiting time.
Question: How do I pay
for the bed?
Answer: You can use the automated order form to pay for your purchase or
you can place a nonrefundable deposit of $50.00 by calling our office at
318-797-6818. Payment in full must be made prior to shipment. If paying
by check, the full payment must be made at the time of order. For credit
card orders, we use Paypal. You do not need to have an account
with Paypal to pay for your purchase.
Question: What tools are
needed to assemble the bed?
Answer: You will need a power driven screwdriver and a 1/2" open end or
socket wrench.
Question: What is a bunk
board?
Answer: The bunk board is the support for the mattress. It can be a 3/4"
sheet of plywood or particleboard. I prefer the plywood because it is
lighter, stronger, and easier to handle than the particleboard. It is
more expensive than the particleboard, however. In our area, the plywood
can be purchased for under $20.00.
Question: What do I do
if the bed is damaged in shipment?
Answer: Tell us about it and I will promptly replace the damaged part.
Do not destroy the packaging materials that were damaged until we tell
you to do so. We will need to have photos of the damaged pieces as
well as photos of the packaging material.
PLANS
Question: How much woodworking skill must a person have to build a bunk
bed?
Answer: Not very much. In fact we have customers that send us pictures
of beds that they build and tell us that they had never built anything
before. The wood is off-the-shelf type available at any building
material store so the process is primarily cutting the lumber to correct
lengths, drilling holes for connections, sanding the wood smooth, and
staining and assembling. There are no irregular cuts or fancy and
sophisticated joints to make.
Question: What kind of
wood do I use?
Answer: You can use just about any kind of wood that is commercially
available. I generally use a #1 or #2 grade Southern Yellow Pine because
it is readily available in my area. Wood like spruce, pine, and fir are
easier to work with and less expensive than the hardwoods.
Question: How much does
the lumber and hardware cost?
Answer: It varies somewhat in different parts of the country. In the
area where I live the lumber will generally cost around $90.00 and the
hardware will cost around $35 to $70 depending upon the model of bunk
bed. The smaller bunk beds like the Captain's bed and the Day Bed will
be somewhat less. Not a bad investment for a return value of $400.00 to
$700.00.
Question: What tools
will I need to build a bed from your plans?
Answer: The minimum tool requirements are an electric drill, hand held
sander, and circular saw. Small hand tools such as pliers, hammer,
wrench will also be needed. More sophisticated tools such as a router,
planer, chop saw, etc. will make the job go easier and faster but are
not necessary.
Question: How long will
it take to receive the plans?
Answer: Plans and hardware are shipped out within two to three days of
receipt of order. The plans are mailed by first class mail and the
hardware is shipped by UPS ground delivery. If you accept delivery of
plans by email instead of regular mail, we will send them to your email
address within hours
of purchase.
Question: What do I
need to be able to read the plans that are sent by email? Answer:
You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or above to view and print
the file. You can get a free download from the Adobe.com website for
the Reader. The plans sent by email are the same exact plans that you
would receive by regular mail.
Question: Will I have
any technical support if I run into a problem?
Answer: Sure, we are available by e-mail to answer any question that you
may have and we do respond promptly.
HARDWARE
Question: Do I have to purchase your hardware package?
Answer: No. The bunk beds can be made with standard hardware available
at most hardware stores. The standard hardware, however, is bright
galvanized and detracts from the appearance of the bed. The hardware
package that I offer includes black zinc coated bolts and screws that
blend well with the wood. The casters are heavy-duty type. The cost of
the special hardware package is usually less than standard hardware and
you have the convenience of having it organized and delivered to your
door.
