You may have already noticed that I did not come on with the promise of a six-digit income, nor have I told you that it would require practically no effort on your part. These templates are made of wood and hardboard. They will allow you to locate screw and bolt holes accurately without time-consuming measurements.

A headboard assembly jig kit is included. This jig is an invaluable aid in accurately positioning the rungs to the corner posts. It will dramatically increase efficiency. You mount the pieces to your own plywood.

Working out of your home you will probably not have the room to display all of the beds that you can make, yet it is important for your customers to see the different models and types of beds. By building one display bed, you will show the customer the quality of your work they can expect and the photo album will show the other choices of styles that you have. The album contains quality photographs of the beds for which you have plans. These photos will give you strong credibility with your customers. As you build your own beds, you can replace our pictures with your own pictures.

What woodworking skills are required?
Answer: Minimal - the beds are made of off-the-shelf lumber. There are no curved or irregular cuts or fancy joints to make. You simply cut the lumber to the correct length, sand it smooth, drill holes for the screws and bolts, apply a stain and assemble.

What tools are needed?
Answer: To begin, you need only an electric hand held circular saw, sander and screwdriver with assorted bits and drills. You will, however, want to acquire more sophisticated tools to increase your speed and efficiency as your business grows.

How much more money will it take to get into this business after the initial purchase of the plan?
Answer: You will need to have about $100.00 to place your first ad. The lumber and material cost for your first bed can come from a deposit placed by the customer at time of order.

How much will lumber and hardware cost for a bed?
Answer: This cost varies somewhat according to the model of bed that you are building and the price of lumber in the area in which you live. Generally, lumber and hardware will average about $150.00 per bed.

Where do I find the bed hardware?
Answer: We sell the black oxide hardware pictured on the website. However, it is not a requirement that you purchase hardware from us. We purchase the hardware in wholesale quantities and will sell it to associates for a modest profit. The hardware is black oxide coated with decorative heads so that the screws and bolts do not need to be hidden or countersunk. The black color will blend nicely with the finish that you apply to the bed. I will be able to supply this hardware to you at a cost that will be less than the price you will pay to purchase elsewhere.

How do I sell the beds?
Answer: The manual included with the Business Plan goes into detail about this. The best way to generate immediate sales is to place an ad in the classifieds on weekends with the largest newspaper serving the area.

Can I sell the beds wholesale to furniture stores?
Answer: Yes, some stores will be glad to either purchase beds from you or sell your beds on consignment. They will retain a commission, of course, from the sale, but they will mark it up so that there is still reasonable profit to you.

What are other outlets to market my beds?
Answer: The Business Plan Manual will cover this subject in detail. There are several viable options for you to sell your beds.

I do not have sales talents and I don't think I could do well in sales. How can I get around this?
Answer:  Your display bed and photo album will do the selling for you. People will see right away that you are offering a quality and price that is unavailable in a retail furniture store. Selling consists of greeting the customer as they come to your shop or home, showing them your display bed, and letting them look at your photo album of the other styles from which they can choose. This is covered in more detail in the Operations Manual that is part of your Business Plan.

Why will customers go through the inconvenience of buying a bed from me when there are plenty of furniture stores in town that are open all day long?
Answer: Take the time and visit some of these furniture stores and look at the quality of bunk beds that they sell and the price at which they are sold. That will answer your question. Also, you can customize a bed for a customer. They can select the color and make changes to the beds that you can easily make. You have low or no overhead, no rent, no payroll, so you can easily beat the prices in the furniture stores

How much money can I make at this business?
Answer: That depends largely on how much time you have to spend at it and how hard you want to work. To give you an idea, though, you can typically make about $350.00 - $450.00 for each bed with accessories. The sales price at my shop of a Twin/Twin bunk bed is $399.00. A  sale would go something like this:

Conservatively, since everybody will not purchase the storage drawers (although most do) and not everyone will want the mattresses, I have estimated the typical profit from a bed to be $350.00.  However, with the add-ons and other perks that you might add, you can see that you can turn an even larger  profit.

How do I obtain mattresses to sell?
Answer: The manual gives information about this very profitable aspect of bunk bed sales.

Does my location have to be convenient to my customers?
Answer: Absolutely not! We have found that people do not mind driving out of their way to get a good quality bed at a reasonable price.  You can count on selling the majority of the people who visit your shop.

How long does it take to build a bed?
Answer: After you have gained some experience and proficiency you should build a bed in about a day. You can build a pair of storage drawers in 3-4 hrs. Additional time may be needed for the finishing process. The templates and jig that you will receive as a part of your business plan will speed up production substantially.

Can I make this a full time business?
Answer: Absolutely, but I would recommend that you start off part time and work up  slowly as you gain experience and word of mouth advertising has time to work.

I don't have a shop. Is this a problem?
Answer: No, Your garage or any shed and a couple of sawhorses will work fine.

Do I have to deliver and assemble the beds to customers?
Answer: Not if you don't want to, however, this is a source of extra income if you wish to do it. If you have a pickup truck or a SUV you can offer delivery and assembly as an extra charge.

I have a full time job and am home only in evenings and weekends. I would not feel comfortable with people coming to my home while I am not there. How can this be handled?
Answer: Easy. You don't give your address in your ad. You just give a phone number and you receive messages on a recorder. You answer your calls and arrange an appointment for the customer to come to your home.

The demands of my full time job are not always predictable. Sometimes I would not have the time to build beds, other times I would have ample time. How would this work?
Answer: You can control the amount of work that you have by simply pulling your ad when you don't have the time or perhaps want to take a vacation

What guarantees do I have that I will be successful?
Answer: Unfortunately, there are no guarantees. There are too many factors that are beyond my control. I can guarantee that I am offering a plan that has worked well for me and many of my associates and I know of no reason why it won't work as well or better for you if you work at it.

Do I pay you a commission or fees on my sales? Answer:  Absolutely not.! This is your business, not mine.  We are available for unlimited support, but we collect no further fees or commissions after you purchase the business package.  We do sell the hardware in bulk quantity to our associates but is not a requirement that you purchase from us.

How is the best way to get started with a minimum risk?
Answer: Why not purchase one plan and build a bed? You can use this bed for your own personal use or perhaps use it as a display bed. You can even use it to test the market by advertising it for sale. When you are ready, order the business package. If the plans that you purchased are one of the ones we offer in our business package, you can select another set of plans from our collection to go with your business package.

Remember this however. It will take you two to three times longer to build this first bed since you will not have the jigs and templates that come with your business plan. Also you will naturally go much slower on the first one.
